Foster care is a profession, so foster carers can expect to be paid for their hard work and amazing skills. Whether you’re interested in becoming a foster carer or you’re thinking about transferring to Lika, you probably have a lot of questions about the pay, conditions and other financial benefits. Here’s what you need to know.

Lika’s foster carer payments and benefits

  • Earn between £22,100 and £30,160 per year for a single placement
  • Earn up to £56,160 for two siblings (this can increase with more siblings or higher needs)
  • Extra respite days, up to £1000 towards a holiday and up to £1500 towards specialist qualifications, in complex placements
  • Free membership to the National Association of Therapeutic Parents and The Fostering Network
  • A finance package that includes a retainer
  • Earn £2000 for referring a friend to foster
  • A range of additional benefits, including a £400 set-up loan.

Extra benefits Lika foster carers receive

  • Earn one day respite extra a year by completing daily logs/attending all training and supervision (with 100% attendance)
  • Self-care rewards offered during placements (e.g., massages and meals out)
  • Refer a friend scheme. Get £2000 when your friend is approved and completes 12 months of caring for a foster child
  • A £400 set-up loan to help get your home ready for a young person
  • Reward schemes and packages, including weekends away, treats, meals, additional paid respite days
  • Discounts for UK attractions, short break holidays, and a Costco membership
  • Expenses-paid travel to and from training, when the training location isn’t local
  • Refreshments and lunch provided at training, group meetings and support groups
  • Reward vouchers for young people achieving 100% term-time attendance
  • Newly approved and inexperienced carers are paired with more experienced carers as part of our buddy scheme
  • Access to a specialist foster carer mentor
  • Free membership to the National Association of Therapeutic Parents, including full access to resources, listening circles, peer support, advocacy, and discounted training
  • Fostering network membership, including discounts, free legal advice, and advocacy
  • Free training for your support networks (like parents and friends) and professional networks
  • Annual Lika events designed to help foster carers and young people meet other carers and children, developing your relationships and support network
  • Regular support groups and training, for children who foster, with therapist and Lika directors
  • Foster children summer camp (spaces are limited due to the mix of needs)
  • Newly approved carers can receive weekly supervision with their social worker, if requested
  • Foster carers trained in de-escalation techniques
  • Quarterly carer team meetings with Lika directors
  • Monthly foster carer support meetings, led and chaired by foster carers
  • Face-to-face group training, either one-to-one, or pre-recorded in extenuating circumstances.
